For the first time, BWFA kicks off with an extra limited edition and this new initiative has clearly been enthusiastically welcomed by the public. In an era in which foal auctions are not the exception, but the rule, customers trust the expertise and proven references of BWFA. The athletes of tomorrow are formed by today’s breeding, which is increasingly focused on top sport and requests modern jumping foals. BWFA selected 12 strong, elite foals that represent the top of BWP breeding. The quality offered was rewarded with foreign interest and fair auction prices. In the context of Waregem Horse Week this limited edition generated a total revenue of €187,500 with an average auction price of €14,400 per foal.
Accordingly, BWFA chairman Hubert Hamerlinck is full of praise. “This exclusive collection was a very attractive one. Beautiful foals with performance pedigrees got rewarded. The cooperation with Waregem Horse Week was a great experience. Our event is new in this region, which may have been unknown to many people, but we are certainly pleased with this first result.”
Auctioneer Dirk Zagers sold two foals between €20,000 and €25,000, including Sky van de Zandhoeve which was bought by Torrey Pines Stables of Eric Lamaze and will move to America. Salyan des Dames, a colt by Catoki out of the dam line of Oreade des Dames, goes to Germany. The highest bid of the evening was counted for the flagship of this limited edition Sir Halifax de W&S, a half-brother to Halifax van de Kluizebos.
Scarlet van de Pereboom goes to Stijn Stevens, Herman Claessens and Seacoast Stables for €18,000. This mare by Comme Il Faut comes directly out of the full sister to Gunder. “Comme Il Faut provides modern horses that are super careful. These are the horses we need later on in topsport. We also know the Gunder dam line very well, which convinced us completely”, says Stijn Stevens.
With a satisfied organization, buyers and sellers, this BWFA limited edition is a new initiative that clearly tastes for more.
